- I've spent some time listening to amps and pre-amps that come in the
- $1000 price range (together, not each!) and am presently borrowing a
- B&K CS-117 and ST-120. I really prefered the open sound of the
- Pro10MC Sonata, but am not currently able to afford it. I have yet to
- hear the ST-120 alongside the ST-140, but I think I will probably get
- the 140 if I decide to buy the B&K equiptment.
-
- So, the question is this. The dealer here has a policy on their
- higher quality electronics whereby I can purchase the equiptment and
- bring it back anytime within one year for credit toward more expensive
- equiptment. Note that I cannot trade in an amp and preamp toward
- purchase of just one piece of equiptment (ie. 1 to 1 trades only)...
- and they then sell the equiptment as used for some discount (not much
- though). Anyway, the policy sounds great to me as I would love to
- upgrade every so often, BUT, their prices are not all that great to
- begin with. How much do dealers generally sell this stuff for? This
- one sells at list price minus very little. The preamp was $320 and
- the amp was $341... neither is ballanced.
-
- I really like the idea of trading in the CS-117 for a ProMC in the
- future, but would I be better off just getting the equiptment from a
- reputable mail order retailer and selling it when I decide to upgrade?
- This is definitely a bit of a hastle, but is it worth it?
-
- Thanks again for your help...
