- I think I'm the poster who originally brought up the quality issue of
- the 1050 and 850. I don't remember exactly what I said originally, but I
- have listened to both units (and even the DSP-A1000) extensively. One
- local shop has all three in their sound room. IMHO, the 1050 sounds better
- than the 850 and the A1000 (I was using Mission speakers). This perceived
- difference prompted me to investigate the units further. I conducted
- similar A/B type tests at other retail outlets to convince myself this
- occurence wasn't limited to the particular units in the sound room of the
- first store. This investigation lead me to the conclusion that the
- difference in sound quality can be attributed to the internal design
- and quality of parts used (I could find no other reason for the
- consistently better performance of the 1050). Of course, the differences
- that I heard may or may not be heard by others (just as the differences in
- some speaker wire are heard by some and not by others). By looking inside
- the units in question, however, I think you'll have to admit there is a
- difference in design, quality of construction and parts used. You'll have
- to leave it up to your own ears to hear the difference.
- Hope this clears up any misunderstanding of my original post...
