- Well, that's a raging debate here in the 'States. The telephone companies
- are always trying to claim they have a right to control what goes over the
- phone lines (for instance, they're always trying to impose fees on people
- who use modems instead of regular voice communication). The opposite
- argument, of course, is that communication is communiction, and one form
- of it over the phone lines is as good as another. I think it would be
- extremely dangerous for a phone company to have a say in what is SAID on
- their wires; this coming from my perspective and an understanding of
- American legal tradition.
