  24. The Applications Engineer is responsible for the effective utilization 
  25. of Connection Machine systems for a particular customer or geographical 
  26. region.  The "AE" plays a key role in making our customers successful 
  27. Connection Machine users by demonstrating the attributes of parallel 
  28. computing, encouraging new applications, administering and maintaining 
  29. the systems and strengthening communications with Thinking Machines' 
  30. headquarters.  The technical support role includes consulting in design, 
  31. resolving problems, optimizing code, providing aggressive maintenance to 
  32. maximize system availibity, installing system upgrades and optimizing 
  33. total system performance.

  35. We are specifically seeking a candidate with several years of 
  36. applications development and/or systems administration experience, 
  37. preferably in a UNIX environment.  Knowledge and experience in multiple 
  38. operating systems, I/O systems software and peripherals, SUN, Fortran 
  39. and C are highly desirable.  A technical degree in engineering, 
  40. mathematics or computer science is necessary; an advanced degree is 
  41. preferred.  Strong communications skills are required to effectively 
  42. support demanding customers and to serve as a bridge between them and 
  43. the Thinking Machines headquarters support and development 
  44. organizations.  The successful candidate will also be highly motivated, 
  45. organized, consciencious and have demonstrated an ability to work in an 
  46. unstructured, self-directed manner.  An initial training period of 4 
  47. months in Cambridge is anticipated.
