- The Applications Engineer is responsible for the effective utilization
- of Connection Machine systems for a particular customer or geographical
- region. The "AE" plays a key role in making our customers successful
- Connection Machine users by demonstrating the attributes of parallel
- computing, encouraging new applications, administering and maintaining
- the systems and strengthening communications with Thinking Machines'
- headquarters. The technical support role includes consulting in design,
- resolving problems, optimizing code, providing aggressive maintenance to
- maximize system availibity, installing system upgrades and optimizing
- total system performance.

- We are specifically seeking a candidate with several years of
- applications development and/or systems administration experience,
- preferably in a UNIX environment. Knowledge and experience in multiple
- operating systems, I/O systems software and peripherals, SUN, Fortran
- and C are highly desirable. A technical degree in engineering,
- mathematics or computer science is necessary; an advanced degree is
- preferred. Strong communications skills are required to effectively
- support demanding customers and to serve as a bridge between them and
- the Thinking Machines headquarters support and development
- organizations. The successful candidate will also be highly motivated,
- organized, consciencious and have demonstrated an ability to work in an
- unstructured, self-directed manner. An initial training period of 4
- months in Cambridge is anticipated.
