  20. I usually pay by personal check in advance.  It's a bit safer than money
  21. order or cashier's check, because the person's name is on it, and I can
  22. cancel it easily.  The only time I was ever cheated, I sent a $16 money order
  23. (it was for two AD&D books).  Nothing showed up... I never did anything,
  24. because $16 wasn't worth the trouble.  (I later heard that the same person
  25. had swindled at least one other victim.)

  27. I once traded a large carton of equipment and software for a high-speed
  28. modem.  We agreed to ship simultaneously... I began to get worried when the
  29. thing hadn't arrived after two weeks, and repeatedly mailed the other
  30. person...  however, the problem was that he had been sick, and so I did
  31. receive what I had paid for.  No hard feelings-- I will gladly do business
  32. with him in the future.

  34. After this Vincent Poy affair, though, I think I'll use COD for all but the
  35. most trivial amounts.  99% of the people on the net are honest, but the few
  36. thieves here force us to be careful.  I too was planning to buy some SIMMs
  37. from Poy... fortunately, I saw the warnings in time to avoid getting
  38. swindled.
