- Well, I need a 512MB IDE drive for another system to do some serious
- development work. I have two UNIX Systems -- only need one, so I'd
- like to offer my older system for sale for $1300 or in trade for a
- 512 MB IDE drive.
-
- This is a great starter system to learn about UNIX system administration.
-
- What I am selling is a complete UNIX platform that I will set up ready
- for you to use for e-mail and usenet news, EXCEPT that unless you pay
- extra I will not include a monitor [if I sell you my monitor then I have
- to go out and buy another one]. All of the hardware and software has been
- in use for my e-mail and news feed in the past, so I know it works without
- problems. I will set the system up for you to dial in to the news feed of
- your choice; if you don't have a news feed and either live in the Phoenix area
- or else don't mind long distance phone bills, I will offer my site to be your
- news feed [as long as my site exists, and as long as I get from my feed what
- you want].
-
- What you get:
-
- SOFTWARE:
-
- * Microport System V/386 Version 3.0 unlimited user base system
- [the boot disk is worth 25% off on an upgrade to a newer Microport ptort
- system].
-
- * Development System [compiler, lint, lex, yacc, etc].
-
- * DOS Merge -- run many popular DOS programs sharing your UNIX file
- system. I use a DOS version of Wordstar for example [WS not incl.]
-
- * 5 volume manual set for all of above.
-
- * c-news installed.
-
- * rn news reader installed.
-
- * fas installed.
-
- HARDWARE:
-
- * Micronics motherboard with 80386DX-16 plus 80387-16.
-
- * 2M RAM -- expandable using expansiion card [not incl.], but
- the system supports a single user plus uucp just fine with this
- amount of RAM [newer releases of UNIX are more RAM-hungry].
-
- * CGA card with printer port. [CGA monitor not included -- if you need
- one lets talk.] The system supports a limited number of EGA and VGA
- cards, but I've always used CGA.
-
- * Serial port for an external modem or a dumb terminal.
-
- * Internal 2400 baud modem [I know, it's kind of slow, but I used
- it for a couple years for a partial news feed. If you MUST have
- something faster, you can either pay extra for my Hayes Optima 9600
- baud modem -- I'll have to go out and get a new one -- or else
- send me a modem to set up. I can't sell you a "shake out of the
- box UNIX e-mail and usenet news system" unless I have the modem].
-
- * 1.2 MB Teac floppy drive
-
- * 80 MB + 50 MB MFM hard disks and controller (1:1 interleave).
-
- * Grungy but working keyboard [most people like to pick out their
- own "feel" in a keyboard -- this will do you until you find what
- what you really like].
-
- SUPPORT:
-
- * 1 week warranty on the system [I will not spend your money for a
- week -- after that the money will be gone and I won't be able to
- refund your money.
-
- * 6 months technical support via e-mail or phone.
