- I'm a fire police officer with my company, Photographers (still,
- video, or TV) are our #1 HEADACHE while at a fire scene.
- Philadelphia is not to far from us, they sent a TV crew down to
- one of our working fires. Upon arrival, we had fire showing with
- several
- people trapped in there 2 story house. We were no more than one mile
- away on an accident when this came in. Everyone in the house died!
- They were giving us problems the entire time they were there.
- Examples: 1) crossing fire lines 2) bothering firefighters 3) NOT
- listening to the command of a fire police officer (Note: We have
- arresting powers in my state).
- We were starting to bring dead bodies out of the house for the
- Medical Examiner, had a tarp from the door the his vehicle (approx.
- 20'
- long). One phographer entered the scene & was Photographed the dead
- bodies while we were bringing them outside.
-
- He was arrested for obstructing emergency personnel in there
- duties while on the scene.
- The tape was showned on a Philadephia channel, our chief wrote a
- nasty letter to the station regarding there actions. We never got a
- reply!
- I came very close on arresting a local TV crew for enter the
- scene
- for the 2nd time, they were escorted back the first time by a state
- tooper.
-
- Permission: STAY OUT OF THE WAY until the fire scene is
- complete!
-
- Photographers / reporters have a right to know, NOT a right to
- hinder a fire operation.
