- Peter I am a Fire Chief in a small Town just outside of Manchester
- N.H... Automatic response is common here. We are surrounded by 4 full
- time departments and try to utilize them to the best of our ability. The
- first thing I have found is to have a good working relationship with
- your area departments. Once you have that you have to find your
- priorities.. 1- What is your Daytime coverage like? If you are short
- handed during the day you may want the Town nearest you to start an
- Engine or Tanker on anything structure related. If you have large
- buildings in your Town, and your coverage is poor during a certin time
- of day, you may want to think about it.. Its not down grading the
- Volunteer department, but it give the members around during the day a
- little bit of support... We also let outside Chiefs come into the Town
- and aid our officers in the incidents.. It works out well this way,
- seeing that we all are using the incident command system.. Good luck...
