- Well a number of ya have been tossing the OSHA regs back and
- forth for some time on what is this and what is that. So let me
- try and set the record straight.
-
- 1. OSHA regulations apply to ALL employers (public & private).
-
- 2. Whether federally or state enforced at a minimum is the federal
- rule. States may change to make more stringent not less effective.
-
- 3. Too much mis-information about the Bloodborne pathogen rules is
- floating around.
-
- 4. Use COMMEN SENSE not HORSE SENSE when reading and interpreting
- the rules.
-
- 5. Consider what the HAZARD is before you speak on whether the rule
- is good or bad. See the forrest between the trees. Some of you
- can not do this. Not a bad fault, just a fact. Others do not want
- to see the forrest but just their tree.
-
- 6. These health regulations come from sound medical information and
- tried and true precautions. Just because OSHA says you have to do
- something DO NOT think it is some town in Wisconsin around the
- Illinois border.
-
- 7. Most that blast the regulation(s) do not have the first idea of
- what it is all about. Read the preamble to the regulation in the
- Federal Register before you comment about the GOOD and BAD. You
- will be suprised what you will read there.
-
- Don't take this as a bash...I am just setting the record straight from
- some of the BAD information that was floating around in the echos.
- With
- 17 1/2 years in the safety profession as a police officer, fire
- fighter/emt OSHA inspector/consultant...I think I know alot about this
- issue.
-
- I would encourage all of you to join a network that is in touch with
- theses issues, called SAF-Net. Each day we are having systems join
- this
- Network from all over the country.
