- The public High School in my area passed out the below document to
- various community people and is soliciting comments. Basically, they
- are asking for input to help them define where they want to be
- by the year 2000. Thus, this is a GREAT opportunity for ordinary
- people to help a school set its future direction.
-
- I am formulating my reply right now and would also like to tap the
- wisdom/experience of the net to see what you might wish to add.
-
- In addition, if you actually fill it out and describe yourself
- somewhat (i.e. housewife, educator, businessman/woman, degree of
- education attained, etc) and where you are from (which state), I will
- send it in to our school as-is. I will leave your name (and other
- identifying information) off of it, unless you tell me otherwise.
-
- Some background:
- The school itself is a regional public high school serving two communities.
-
- Community A has 10,000 people, household income of about $42,000
- and is largely bluecollar.
- Community B has 14,500 people, household income of about $60,000
- and is mixed bluecollar/whitecollar.
-
- The location is a suburban area in the greater NYC region.
-
- The school itself has 1166 H.S. students and sends 50% onto 4 year
- colleges and 22% onto 2 year colleges. It offers 7 Advanced Placement
- courses. Comparable schools tend to send 65% onto 4 year colleges and
- offer 10-12 AP courses. But our school has make nice improvments (i.e.
- it had just 3 AP courses 2 years ago) in the last year or so.
-
- They now have a new Principal and a new Business Manager at the school
- and are very open to ideas, suggestions, etc.
-
- Anyway - thats it - Here is your chance to influence a US High Schools
- attempts to define its future. Go for it....
