- ANTARCTICA
- An Australian parliamentary committee says Australia needs
- stronger laws to protect Antarctica. The House of Representatives'
- Legal Committee says the biggest needs are for controls on tourism
- and laws for environmental protection.
-
- After a two-year inquiry, the committee has called for laws to
- control tourist ships and to combat environmental damage in the 40%
- of Antarctica claimed by Australia.
-
- The committee chairman says Australian laws should apply to foreign
- nationals in Antarctica except for scientists. (R. Australia 11/5)
