- FILMGOERS SEEK TRUTH ON PANAMA
-
- By Kristanna Thomas

- New York
-
- Audiences have been raving about the film "The Panama Deception,"
- which began showing at the Village East Theater on the Lower West
- Side of Manhattan in New York City Oct. 22. The response has been
- so overwhelming that the original one week showing has been
- extended to Nov. 12.
-
- The film has had an impact on people's consciousness about the
- nature of the war. The film lays bare the lie that the war was
- fought to get rid of a dictator and stop the flow of drugs.
-
- Outside the theater, the International Action Center, one of the
- organizations sponsoring the film, has a literature table. At the
- table, Rubin, one of the center's volunteers, told Workers World,
- "I have sold a lot of literature at the film showing. It has
- really had an impact on everyone who's seen it. No one will
- believe the government's lies after they've seen this."
-
- Other co-sponsors of the showing are former Panamanian diplomat
- Humberto Brown, Pacifica radio station WBAI-FM, and former
- Attorney General Ramsey Clark. It was produced by the Empowerment
- Project.
-
- One viewer who came out of the theater said, "I never knew that
- my country did all of this."
