  17. The U.S. General Accounting Office (GAO) released a report in June  
  18. 1992 entitled, PESTICIDES: COMPARISON OF U.S. AND MEXICAN  
  19. PESTICIDE STANDARDS AND ENFORCEMENT.

  21. The GAO prepared the study in anticipation of NAFTA and the
  22. "heightened concern that pesticide use may increase and residue levels
  23. on Mexican produce may exceed U.S. limits if growers attempt to
  24. maximize production with these opportunities for agricultural
  25. exports."  For a copy of the report and the GAO's presentation of it
  26. before the House Agriculture Committee, call (202) 275-6241.  The
  27. first copy is free.  Additional copies are US$2 each.
