- Lowell,
-
- This is an area which is under scrutiny at this moment. Currently the answer is
- no. But, there are proposals in the works for stations in the states to be able
- to leave thier Packet BBSes in "unattended" mode when they are operating on
- certian, pre-determined frequencies. I believe the International Telecommunicat
- ions union is looking into it. Here in Canada, there are no rules on that, so I
- just leave mine running all of the time.
-
- The F6FBB package which I am running is a very nice one, but it is hard to set
- up and a pain when it requires any work, but the users are able to do lots with
- it.
-
- I think you should try to contact a Ham Club and go out to a few meetings. A ham
- ticket is not that hard to get and once you have it, you have it. The only real
- difference bettween Canada and you is that the FCC will take it away from you
- if you misbehave, here they slap you on the wrist about 3 times, then they fine
- you. People go to jail in the states.
-
- Well, Best 73 for now,
- I hope I was some help.
- Alan
-
- P.S. I was not trying to make your country sound mean, I was just telling it
- like it is. Your FCC has been known to confiscate radios from misbehaving
- operators at Ham Radio Conventions, in some ways, I think it is great because
- then people are not as likely to Jam other operators. I have been openly sworn
- at in the most vulgar of language, just for using my radio, by another
- unidentified operator, for no reason. But, our DOC says they will do nothing
- because they do not have the man-power to investigate.
- whoops, sorry, have to be gender consious, they don't have the "people-power"
- to investigate.
-
- Oh yea,
-
- I am very impressed by the turn-around times for our mail. On Shortwave, the
- propagation has been very bad due to a severe solar flare, since I live in the
- sub-arctic (latitude 62.41 deg north) I have alot of Aurora Borealis, nice to
- look at, but it takes out shortwave communications. So, I am working on setting
- up a Microsat Gateway to UO-22 and then I can send my mail via a Low Earth orbit
- satellite and I won't have to worry too much what the sun does.
-
- Best Regards for now.
