- Hi,
-
- I am mailing this to help-gcc@prep.ai.mit.edu; earlier today I
- posted a message to newsgroup gnu.gcc.help but after reading
- the "how to get help" in the gcc info file, that seems to be
- wrong. PLEASE pardon my stupidity if you see this twice.
-
- Yesterday I fetched, compiled, and installed gcc v2.3.1 for our
- sun4s running sunos 4.1.1. I have a few questions which are
- probably ridiculously simple for you folks, but the answers don't
- seem obvious right now.
-
- 1. Where do the c++ header/include files come from? I seem
- to be lacking them. For example, I need <stream.h> to compile
- even the simplest hello.C program. Do I need to ftp something else?
- Did I overlook something in the documentation or is something
- actually missing?
-
- 2. Should I be using gas? Right now, the compiler uses just the
- standard system assembler. Are the benefits worth my trouble?
-
- 3. The GNU C library (glibc-1.05) is intended for people who have no c
- library available, correct? Are there any benefits for folks like us?
-
- 4. What is the libgcc.a used for? It was installed under
- /usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/sparc.../2.3.1 and is a collection
- of objects that can be used in static linking. I'm asking
- because I wonder how this works with/against dynamic linking
- on our suns.
-
- Thanks in advance for any and all help. My apologies if I've
- overlooked the answers in the INSTALL or the info files.
