  11. We currently have an opening at the Johns Hopkins University/Applied
  12. Physics Laboratory, located in Laurel, MD (halfway between Baltimore, MD
  13. and Washington, DC) for an individual with strong background in computer
  14. systems engineering.  This individual will be involved in hardware and
  15. software systems design of information systems which support both
  16. engineering/scientific and administrative applications.

  18. Our current computing environment includes mainframe computers, personal
  19. computers, workstations, and local area networks supporting a variety of
  20. technical and administrative applications.  We have a need for an
  21. individual with primarily computer hardware, but also some computer
  22. software, experience to help evolve the existing environment to meet new
  23. requirements.  The individual must be capable of determining overall
  24. system requirements for new or enhanced applications, identifying
  25. alternative hardware/software configurations, specifying/selecting
  26. system components (primarily from readily available vendor offerings),
  27. integrating resulting components, testing/documenting the final
  28. configuration, and providing initial orientation to end users.

  30. Required qualifications include a BS/MS in engineering or computer
  31. science, seven or more years of applicable experience, in-depth
  32. knowledge of existing and forthcoming computer hardware and software
  33. components, excellent verbal and written communications skills,
  34. experience with IBM MVS systems, and experience with one or more of the
  35. following computer environments: DOS/Windows PCs, Unix workstations,
  36. Local area networks.  In addition, experience with DoD classified data
  37. processing requirements, government procurement regulations, and
  38. graphics hardware/software is desirable.  U.S. Citizenship is *required* 
  39. to obtain access to classified material.
