  15. Use xdpyinfo and look at lines 2 through 4.  Version number 11.0
  16. corresponds to X11, and when the vendor string is "MIT X Consortium" the
  17. first digit of the vendor release number is the X11 release (other vendors
  18. may put their own release number there -- for instance, Sun puts the
  19. OpenWindows version number there).
