  17. Umm, I don't think it was even the case in 3.x - or 2.x, for that matter
  18. - that NFS writes were synchronous on the client side.  The 4.x VM
  19. system is irrelevant to the discussion; 3.x and earlier releases used
  20. the traditional UNIX buffer cache scheme for I/O, both on local file
  21. systems and over NFS.
