- I _know_ this has been asked before, but it has been awhile
- since I saw any info on it. And lucky me, now I have one.
- This is not on the ultrix or X FAQ except for a tiny note in the
- ultrix FAQ:
-
- "Support for the MX exists, but some problems have been reported
- when attempting to render non-black, non-white pixels."
-
- This is an under-statement.
-
- My question is does anyone out there have a patch or kludge
- that allows the MIT X11R5 Xdec server to be correctly used
- with the MX card?
-
- Xdec -class StaticGray doesn't work. It thinks its a color card
- but then displays only the low bit. Neither do any of the other
- classes. Although you get some interesting results.
-
- I've seen a previous post about this describing _why_ this happens
- (something about the MX card having a pixel stride of 8). But this
- post was from January, and surely someone has come up with a kludge
- fix for this so I don't have to run DEC's server and educate users
- that "this machine has an unsuppported graphics card so you have to
- write an .xserverrc which checks the hostname and runs the DEC server"
-
- Someone ordered this card out of cost reasons, and now I'm just
- trying to cleanly support it.
