- Hello netters.
-
- I am trying to establish a SLIP connection to my decstation
- (DEC5000/200, Ultrix 4.2a), where the other system is doing the
- calling (i.e., DEC is being a slave.) The other workstation calls,
- logins into account, named with calling system's name, which has
- /usr/new/slattach for its shell and.... nothing - the effect is the
- same as being connected to /dev/null. It doesn't time out and gives no
- response whatsoever. (At some point I fed it a binary file "by hand"
- and got not a single character response) "ps" shows slattach running...
-
- Can someone help?
-
- I am using (trying) stock SLIP which came with 4.2a
- I've done the following according to the manual:
- 1. Added pseudo-device sl and made a new kernel
- 2. Added the following line to /etc/sliphosts file
-
- caller caller.csuohio.edu callee 255.255.0.0 any /dev/tty
-
- (BTW, there is discrepancy between the man page sliphosts(5) and
- sample /etc/sliphosts provided. The man page appears to be wrong
- - slattach dumps core when line specified according to the man page)
-
- 3. Added account to /etc/passwd:
- caller:<password>:320:2:From Another Galaxy:/usr/spool/uucppublic:/usr/new/slattach
- 4. Added "caller" to /etc/hosts file
-
- Have I missed something? Thank you in advance for you help.
