- I'm posting this for a colleague. I can add that there does not
- seem to be a hardware fault with the disk as it runs no problem
- on a VAXstation under VMS (can I say VMS in this group?).
-
- He's running Ultrix 4.1 and I did wonder if this might be the root of
- the problem. Only other thing is that VMS sho dev/full reports
- Cylinders: 1654 ; tracks per cyl: 15 ; sectors per track: 85
- - which doesn't quite seem to match the disktab table. Changing the
- ns and nc disktab entries to match doesn't make any difference though.
- Maybe something else is needed but I'm not that familiar with ultrix.
-
- I'll stay in this group to read replies or just mail
- me and I'll forward any info on.
-
- Here's the message:
- ================================
- I have recently purchased a Fujisu M2266SA hard disk (1079 M) from a
- company who told me that it could be used as a RZ57 on my Decstation
- (5000/200) running Ultrix 4.1.
- However, when I received the disk, there are instructions to put the
- following to the /etc/disktab:
-
- fuj1080|FUJ1080|Fujitsu M2266SA Winchester:\
- :ty=winchester:ns#84:nt#15:nc#1656:\
- :pa#32768:ba#8192:fa#1024:\
- :pb#131072:bb#8192:fb#1024:\
- :pc#3907911:bc#8192:fc#1024:\
- :pd#0:bd#8192:fd#1024:\
- :pe#0:be#8192:fe#1024:\
- :pf#0:bf#8192:ff#1024:\
- :pg#3744071:bg#8192:fg#1024:\
- :ph#0:bh#8192:fh#1024:
-
- Then the following commands are issued:
-
- # cd /dev
- # MAKEDEV rz<ID> SCSI ID =3 in this case
-
-
- All went well until I tried to create a new file system on the disk :
-
- newfs /dev/rrz3c fuj1080
-
- which caused the machine to hang. Can somebody tell me why ?
