- Since my modem died abruptly, I obtained a generic 2400bps modem to
- do simple up/downloads. However, my Unix machine will not recognize
- it. Specifically, upon bootup, it reports that (serial device 0)
- has a BAD CHIP (Rx error = 3.)
-
- However, the internal modem works fine under DOS, absolutely without
- any problems. I checked the /etc/conf/.../asy files and they seem
- to be correct (what I had before, which was fine with an external
- at COM1.) I switched the modem to com2 and rebuilt the kernel, with
- the same result. As far as I can tell, there are no IRQ/port conflicts
- (besides, if there were, then the modem shouldn't have worked in
- DOS.)
-
- Any ideas ? Is this because the (internal) serial processor isn't
- recognizable by the asy driver ? (i.e., not a 8250/16540/16550/etc.)
- Can other asy drivers fix this (SAS ?) Or should I just junk this
- modem and wait 'till the external comes back from the shop ?
-
- Thanks in advance,
-
- -Ade.
