- only 1MB
- TI 34010 cpu running at 60 Mhz VRAM
- 1MB VRAM
- *** 2MB DRAM *** (that's where the '+2' comes from)
- *** built-in VGA ***
- Resolutions: 1024x768x8 (256 Colors out of 16.7M)
- 800x600x? (I believe 32K or 64K colors)
- 640x480x32(?) (16.7 Million Colors)
- 548x400 (NSC PAL resolution?)
-
- Windows 3.1 drivers included as well as Autocad 10/11
- ADI drivers. (Please note: the latest drivers are
- available directly from Hercules for a nominal fee,
- OR via modem from Hercules BBS.) All users manuals,
- utility disks, TIGA disks are included. I'll also
- throw in the Texas Instruments TIGA DDK (Driver
- Development Kit) 2.05. (Note: these are available
- free from TI.)
-
-
- 2) AGElogic Xoftware 2.0 $400 (US) $595
- (for Interactive Unix 2.2 or 3.0)
-
- This is an X11R4 server made specifically for
- graphics boards using either TI 34010 or 34020
- cpu's. The Interactive X11 Runtime system is
- still required to run X11. This is only the
- server.
-
-
-
- 3) Interactive X11 2.0 Development System $300 (US) $795+
-
- To the best of my knowledge, this is the latest
- X11 Development System released by Interactive
- (SunSoft). It is X11R4. I will give you the
- original documentation and diskettes so that you
- can purchase future upgrades from SunSoft.
-
- This includes the X11 Runtime as well as all
- necessary files (headers, libraries, etc) to do
- X11 development work. Please note: I got ISC
- X11 2.0 by upgrading from previous releases, and
- as such, this package DOES NOT include Motif.
- It does include a pile of utilities as well as
- twm, awm, uwm, etc. X11 drivers for EGA, VGA,
- and SVGA are included.
-
- You may need ISC Unix 3.0 for this. Don't know if
- it will work with 2.2. I purchased the upgrade
- when I went from 2.2 -> 3.0 and I never had reason
- to go back to 2.2.

-
-
- I will sell the above as packages at the following reduced amounts:
-
- PACKAGE PRICE
-
- ------------------------
-
- 1 + 2 $600 (US)
-
- 2 + 3 $500 (US)
-
- 1 + 3 Doesn't do you any good without 2), unless
- you want X11 using VGA built into the
- GraphicStation board (which is slow).
-
- 1 + 2 + 3 $800 (US)
-
- NOTES:
- A) I will pay shipping within the US via UPS ground. If you want 2nd Day Air,
- we can discuss splitting the cost. (If 2nd Day Air is not outrageous,
- I may be willing to pick that up.)
-
- B) METHOD OF PAYMENT
- 1) Bank or cashier's check made payable (in US funds) to "Stephen C. Camp"
- 2) US Postal Money Order made payable to "Stephen C. Camp"
-
- If you insist on a personal check, I will not ship until your check clears
- my bank.

- Comments
- Why am I selling?
-
- I want to start messing around with the two free Unix-like OS's:
- Linux and 386BSD. However, no one has any Xservers for a 34010
- board for either Linux or 386BSD AND I can't afford the $1500
- for the TI SDK (Software Developer's Kit) which is DOS based anyway.
- Since I don't want to run X11 under Linux or 386BSD on VGA, I needed
- a SVGA card or better. When I learned that a free package called
- X8514 existed for 8514/A accelerator cards and worked with Linux and
- 386BSD, I purchased an ATI Graphics Ultra. However, the deal I made
- with my wife was that if I got the Ultra and it met my needs, I'd sell
- my current graphics board. Well, I also need some new software for
- the Ultra, so I might as well sell the software that I no longer need.
-
- Please note: I have all the original disks and manuals. In some cases
- I also have the original packing materials. I've taken good care
- of the Hercules board.
-
-
- How old is the Hercules board?
-
- My GraphicStation card is 2 yrs. old. I've taken care of it very well
- and it has only had the best electronically filtered power. (I have
- both a 520 VA UPS as well as a 1.2 KVA electronic power filter feeding
- my computer in serial.)

-
-
-
- How fast is the Graphics Board?
-
- The current benchmarks I've seen in PC Magazine, Byte etc say that the
- ATI Graphics Ultra is 2-3 times faster than the GraphicStation. However,
- the GraphicStation is still 10-20 times faster than SVGA boards. In
- addition, it has 3MB total RAM on the card itself which helps to make
- this an excellent AutoCAD board since 2MB or more can be devoted to the
- display list.
-
- I benchmarked ISC Unix 3.0 running Interactive X11 2.0 on my 386-25
- (64k cache, 8mb RAM, Adaptec 1542A, Maxtor LXT-213sy 200 MB scsi disk)
- using XBENCH. The machine came in around 10-11000 xstones. This seems to
- compare poorly with some commercial Xserver claims of 85000 xstones
- for a Graphics Ultra. However, it should be noted that the xstone rating
- is heavily weighted towards certain performance criteria. For example,
- here are some XStone ratings for some other popular workstations:
-
- IBM RISC 6000 MIT X11R5 Server 10.0K
- SUN SPARCstation 1 MIT X11R5 server 20.0K
- SUN SPARCstation 1+ MIT X11R5 server 25.5K
- SGI 4D20G Personal Iris (SGI X11R4 server) 13.7K
- 386-25 w/GrfxStn 386-25 (ISC Unix 3.0/X11 2.0, Xoftware 2.0) 11.0K
- (my machine)
-
- I showed my machine to a couple friends that hack on Sparc 1s and 2s all
- day long. Our subjective opinion was that the X performance using
- the GraphicStation w/ Xoftware 2.0 seemed like or felt like a Sparc 1
- or Sparc 1+. It's not the fastest, but then again, it's no slouch.
- Actually, I think that's pretty damn good for a 386-25 that is about the
- speed of a Sun 3/60!
