  110. Why am I selling?
  111.     
  112.     I want to start messing around with the two free Unix-like OS's:
  113.     Linux and 386BSD.  However, no one has any Xservers for a 34010 
  114.     board for either Linux or 386BSD  AND I can't afford the $1500 
  115.     for the TI SDK (Software Developer's Kit) which is DOS based anyway.
  116.     Since I don't want to run X11 under Linux or 386BSD on VGA, I needed
  117.     a SVGA card or better.  When I learned that a free package called
  118.     X8514 existed for 8514/A accelerator cards and worked with Linux and
  119.     386BSD, I purchased an ATI Graphics Ultra.  However, the deal I made
  120.     with my wife was that if I got the Ultra and it met my needs, I'd sell
  121.     my current graphics board.  Well, I also need some new software for
  122.     the Ultra, so I might as well sell the software that I no longer need.

  124.     Please note:  I have all the original disks and manuals.  In some cases
  125.     I also have the original packing materials.  I've taken good care
  126.     of the Hercules board.

  131.     My GraphicStation card is 2 yrs. old.  I've taken care of it very well
  132.     and it has only had the best electronically filtered power.  (I have
  133.     both a 520 VA UPS as well as a 1.2 KVA electronic power filter feeding
  134.     my computer in serial.)

  145. How fast is the Graphics Board?
  146.  
  147.     The current benchmarks I've seen in PC Magazine, Byte etc say that the
  148.     ATI Graphics Ultra is 2-3 times faster than the GraphicStation.  However,
  149.     the GraphicStation is still 10-20 times faster than SVGA boards.  In
  150.     addition, it has 3MB total RAM on the card itself which helps to  make
  151.     this an excellent AutoCAD board since 2MB or more can be devoted to the
  152.     display list.

  154.     I benchmarked ISC Unix 3.0 running Interactive X11 2.0 on my 386-25 
  155.     (64k cache, 8mb RAM, Adaptec 1542A, Maxtor LXT-213sy 200 MB scsi disk)
  156.     using XBENCH.  The machine came in around 10-11000 xstones.  This seems to
  157.     compare poorly with some commercial Xserver claims of 85000 xstones 
  158.     for a Graphics Ultra.  However, it should be noted that the xstone rating
  159.     is heavily weighted towards certain performance criteria.  For example,
  160.     here are some XStone ratings for some other popular workstations:

  169.     I showed my machine to a couple friends that hack on Sparc 1s and 2s all
  170.     day long.  Our subjective opinion was that the X performance using
  171.     the GraphicStation w/ Xoftware 2.0 seemed like or felt like a Sparc 1
  172.     or Sparc 1+.  It's not the fastest, but then again, it's no slouch.  
  173.     Actually, I think that's pretty damn good for a 386-25 that is about the
  174.     speed of a Sun 3/60!
