  15. could someone point me to literature about the format of the source level
  16. debugging information that many compilers are able to generate? I.e.
  17. how are the symbol tables constructed, how does the debugger know a new
  18. line has begun, etc.

  20. I am aware that there might be different implementations of this. Is there
  21. perhaps a lib that allows one to write portable compilers? Etc.

  23. I apologize for the dumb question, but the man-pages were little help,
  24. and I'd rather have a good reference in printed form.
