- We have two system administrators for the computers in our laboratory.
- After agreeing on a password for the root account on all of them, we
- proceeded to change them. Unfortunately, a moment of total daze occurred
- during the typing of the password on our IBM 6000 system and I was able to
- type the agreed upon password incorrectly twice. Unfortunately, we have
- not been able to determine the incorrect spelling of the password.
- On our other computer systems, Sun and Silicon Graphics, it is possible to
- boot the system in single user mode or miniroot and solve this problem.
- Unfortunately, we have been unsuccessful at finding this same access for the
- IBM. Can anyone help? We are running AIX 3.1. Our efforts with the
- diagnostic programs have not given us access to the software, only hardware.
