- I'm looking for info on whether it may be possible to "regress" from
- a diskfull machine to one that uses a remote /usr. I'm running AIX
- 3.2.2*. Basically, I have several 220's with fully configured 400M
- disks that I would now like to reconfigure for use with a remote /usr.
- The only response I've been able to get from IBM support is to
- re-install the clients using "install for use with remote /usr".
- This means I'll have to go back thru the painful 3.2.2 updates which
- is something I'd really rather avoid if possible.
-
- I haven't been able to find any detailed docs on how the remote
- /usr concept is implemented. Everything I've read is "do this
- and it works like magic kind of stuff". Specifically,
-
- 1. what's req'd on a client?
- (I remember reading a posting a little while back where
- someone was having trouble on a client because the client /usr was
- so minimally configured - the server was down and they were trying
- to perfrom maintenance on the client)?
-
- 2. How are PTF's and updates applied to clients when updates to code
- may affect files in root filesystems (/, /etc) as well as /usr.
-
- 3. If a regression is possible without re-installing the OS, would
- there be problems with the ODM and the VPD?
-
- Thanks for any info.
