  12. Just like other Unix implementations, AIX differs in a variety of
  13. ways from the 'standard' (whatever that is nowadays).  I would like
  14. to hear from some AIX folk on the following questions, and would
  15. be most appreciative of any feedback resultant:

  17. + How does AIX differ from SVR4?  SunOS?  HP-UX?  BSD4.3?
  18.  
  19. + What has IBM added that makes AIX *better* than other Unixes?
  20.  
  21. + What has IBM added that makes AIX *worse* than other Unixes?
  22.  
  23. + Is source from the net easily ported onto the AIX platform?  And are
  24.   programs written for the AIX system portable?
  25.  
  26. + What about X, and Motif?  Are they standard and compatible?  What
  27.   version of X11 is with the existing version of AIX?
  28.  
  29. + What do you think of "smit"?  What about the rest of the system
  30.   administration tools?  
  31.  
  32. + If you could change one thing in the AIX OS, what would it be and why?
  33.  
  34. + If there was one thing in AIX that you'd like to migrate to the rest
  35.   of the Unix industry, what would it be?

  37. + IBM touts the SAA connectivity and ability for the AIX systems to
  38.   plug right into existing IBM networks, mainframe and otherwise.
  39.   Have you found that true?

  41. + What about the RS/6000 series?  What are your thoughts about it,
  42.   how did you come to the decision to purchase it, and how do you
  43.   think it compares to other workstations from Sun, HP, DEC, etc?

  45. + If you had it all to do again, would you buy another IBM RISC
  46.   workstation with AIX?

  48. + Finally, whatever happened to NeXTstep on AIX, and what do you
  49.   think about it, PowerPC, and perhaps the possibility of Windows
  50.   NT on the RS platform?
