  14.     I am a new user on the RS6000. But I dont see a reason why I am not able to
  15. backup files to tape in the 8mm tape drive.
  16. On a UNIX machine(Sun SPARC to be specific!) I ran a tar and piped it to a remote shell
  17. om the AIX machine. The tape doesn't get written and a "write failed" message comes out.

  19. Even a cat file > /dev/rmt0 or a cat file > /dev/rfd0 doesn't work on the AIX m/c.
  20. But a file or system backup works fine with the SMIT utility.

  22. It will be great if someone could tell me what I am doing wrong.
