  12. Picked this up on an internal IBM group, where they said the information
  13. was to be distributed to customers... this is the best way I know.

  17.  Since AIX Version 1 Release 3 (1.3) is available, IBM expects most
  18.  customers to migrate from AIX Version 1 Release 2 Modification 1 (1.2.1)
  19.  to AIX 1.3.  With the majority of customers migrating to AIX 1.3, IBM
  20.  will change the method of service for problems reported against AIX PS/2
  21.  (5713-AEQ) 1.2.1 on January 1, 1993.  After this date, the IBM support
  22.  center will continue to accept problems from IBM customers, but will
  23.  only provide circumventions or relief for high impact problems.

  25.  The last PTF tape for 1.2.1 was available July 24, 1992 (U405156).
  26.  Reported defects that were not fixed on this PTF and exist in AIX PS/2
  27.  1.2.1 were fixed in AIX PS/2 1.3 or will be fixed in the 1.3 service
  28.  stream.

  30.  There are some points that customers should be aware of:

  32.  1.  AIX PS/2 1.2.1 cannot be ordered after December 21, 1992.

  34.  2.  Service for AIX PS/2 1.2.1 will be withdrawn April 1, 1993.

  36.  3.  AIX PS/2 1.3 INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING ENHANCEMENTS:
  37.      - Provides full PS/2 hardware exploitation for 386, 486, and
  38.        SLC processors.
  39.      - Offers limited support for selected IBM compatible systems.
  40.      - Performance tuning offers increased throughput for input/output.
  41.      - Improves windowing and GUI capabilities through XWindows System
  42.        V11R5 and OSF/Motif 1.1.3.
  43.      - Provides DOS 5.0 support under DOS Merge.
  44.      - Improves performance.
  45.      - Connects easily to IBM and non-IBM networks.
  46.      - Simplifies installation and system management.
  47.      - Support for Korn Shell.

  49.  4.  Migrating to 1.3 requires you to re-install the operating system.
  50.      IBM AIX Software Support will provide conversion assistance upon
  51.      request.

  53.  5.  Upgrades from IBM AIX PS/2 1.1, 1.2, or 1.2.1 to 1.3 will be
  54.      available free of charge for orders placed on or before December 31,
  55.      1993.  There is a nominal upgrade charge for DosMerge, AIXWindows,
  56.      XWindows, and XStation Manager.
