  11. Thanks to all the people who have made suggestions on how to get rid of that
  12. annoying Greeting window at the xinit start.  But, no cigars!  We still can't
  13. get rid of the window.

  15. Almost everyone has suggested editing out the responsible code in .xinitrc
  16. but the best that does is prevent the Greeting window AND the Desktop from
  17. coming up.  We don't want to get rid of the Desktop just the Greeting window.

  19. Someone suggested making changes to the xinit file by copiing the system
  20. version and putting it in my log-in directory.  They even sent a copy of
  21. their's which didn't help.  It was virtually identical to the system version.

  23. Someone suggested RTFM, either electronically or traditionally.  Well even
  24. before that suggestion I found that InfoExplorer only mentions the
  25. xdt3*message.greeting variable which specifies the greeting displayed.
  26. And neither InfoExplorer nor the hardbound documentation contains any
  27. reference to other relevant flags other than xdt3.message.timeout: which
  28. we had already set to 1.

  30. I'm not criticizing I'm just reporting the facts.  So the contest is
  31. still open.  A co-worker suggested everyone ante up a buck every day
  32. and the person finding the solution gets the pot.  So far no one has been
  33. willing to put money on it.  But after all this work and frustration some
  34. prize out to be awarded.

  36. Interestingly enough I have heard nothing from any of the folks at IBM.
  37. I guess I should just call them.  They're only 20 blocks away.
