- Since upgrading our X-terminal server system to AIX 3.2 I have had lots
- of problems with my Xstation-120 crashing. It's got to the stage now
- where it will crash more than 10 times a day (I wonder if it would crash
- more often if it didn't take so long to restart it).
-
- The problem is definitely software related as I can cause other
- Xstations to crash just by starting up my 'normal' environment. The
- usual state of affairs is that the Xstation is booted from an RS/6000
- known as luxury. I then log into luxury and immediately rlogin to
- lucifer (my DECstation-5000/20). I then execute a script which starts my
- environment, setting font paths along the way and starting vital X
- applications such as xpostit and xbiff! Finally the script exec's
- twm. All of the software on lucifer is X11R5 compiled from the MIT
- sources by me.
-
- The crash dump (that's what I'd call it) that appears on the screen
- looks a bit like:
-
- 1390-900
- fffd81a0 >> ffc2f650
-
- [lots more address ranges deleted..]
-
- sosend: error = 27
- sosend: error = 31
-
- [even more address ranges deleted..]
-
- I know it's a long shot, but I wondered if anyone had any ideas at all?
- The problems with the Xstation are driving me to distraction and I'm
- afraid for our user's health if they get in the way when I throw it out
- of my office :-(
-
- I haven't posted my startup script (to save a little net bandwidth) but
- if you want a copy, I'd be more than happy to e-mail it to you.
