- Today, I started what will be a large document. I decided that this
- document will be numbered on a per chapter basis, like the FrameMaker
- manuals, you know, 1-1, 1-2, ..., 2-1, 2-2...
-
- So, I set up a running header/footer and the page numbers appeared
- properly. I created a book file and hey! it still worked properly.
- Then, I set up the TOC file. To make a long story short, it appears
- that to get the chapter number to preceed the page number in the TOC
- file (and all other generated files), you have to manually insert the
- chapter number in the file setup dialog window (from the book file).
- Now tell me, is FrameMaker really this brain damaged? Every occurance
- of my chapter number will be automatically updated if I insert a new
- chapter, but for generated files, I will be required to manually fix
- each and every setup? This is too hard to believe. I know from
- experience that FM has problems, but this is so basic...
-
- Anyway, enough griping. Is there a work-around or am I forced into
- this stupidity. I am running Frame 3.1X on a Sun.
-
- [Please forgive the tone, but every time I seem to push a bit on FM,
- it fails to provide basic functionality that TeX has had for 10 years
- now. Since TeX is in the public domain, why don't our "friends" at
- Frame check it out and improve their program?
