  11. Well, I finally got around to replacing the battery pack, but now that
  12. it's working again, I've noticed a couple of peculiar things about the
  13. display:

  15. 1. It whines.  Not too loud, but noticable, and probably annoying if I were
  16. to use it for an extended period.  The volume of the noise is proportional
  17. to the brightness.  The display quality itself is fine.  Is this a normal 
  18. characteristic of this unit?

  20. 2. The system used to boot up with the display on, now it boots up with it
  21. off (until the LCD/CGA key is hit).  Is this a user configurable option?
  22. In EEPROM or by DIP switch? I did have the motherboard out in the process
  23. of fixing some melted wiring, but the display behavior didn't change until
  24. a couple of boots after it was reassembled.  I don't have the manual to
  25. consult, of course.
