- It would *really* help if you tell us what your settings are. I have
- installed them in several Tandy machines with the default IO@0x220 and
- IRQ@5, (don't remember other settings, I don't have one in front of me)

-
- I have not problems installing *a* 16-bit IDE in a Tandy-made AT-bus
- machines. And, yes, I have dealt with about a dozen or two. The *only*
- problems I have had with them have been multiple drives of different mfgr.
- since some companies have different ideas of the master/slave protocol.
- If the BIOS table doesn't support a user-defined type (heads/cyls/sectors),
- you may have to settle for using *most* of the drive. Check your setup
- utility for a type 'AUTO', it will ask the drive and use all of it.

-
- Do you have another computer to check the board in? Can your vendor
- prove the board is good? Have you tried using different settings? Are
- you using IRQ 3, 4, or 7 without disabling internal ports/boards?
-
- If your BIOS setup allows 'AUTO', you're set. If it can support user-
- defined cyl/hd/sec parameters, you're almost set; be sure to get the
- numbers from the Maxtor vendor. If it can't support UD parameters, get
- the numbers from the Maxtor vendor and see if there's anything usable in
- your BIOS table.
-
- You're impression of incompatability with older machines is mostly
- correct, but I have seen almost no problems with newer machines. The
- new Sensation's only problem seems to be that there's so much in it
- that only two IRQs, few DMAs, and few wide-open IO ranges left after
- all the hardware that's in the machine eats the AT architecture up.
- All in all, it's a nice, quick machine - I've even seen it run NT!
- I can't use one, though because there's no room for the EtherNet,
- SCSI, and multi-serial boards or the drives I need for a *nix box.
-
- Disclamer: rwsys doesn't pay me enough to talk for them and I don't
- always agree with their management, who they *do* pay enough. YMMV!
