  12.  
  13.     We have produced an in-house code with a large amount of interactive
  14. graphics. The code was developed on an IBM RISC station with an SGI card and
  15. using SGL for the graphics. We now want to integrate this code into our main
  16. Sun network and NFS system. The code will never be fixed and major revisions
  17. can be expected every few months from the author.

  19.     Our original plan was run the code on a number of stand alone IRIS
  20. Indigo R4000 XS connected via an ethernet to the Sun network using the IRIS
  21. stations as X_terminals when accessing other codes from the Sun network and
  22. only ever using the CPU of the IRIS stations to run the SGL based code.

  24.     I recently heard that the Silicon Graphics Library had been released
  25. as an open product and might be available for the Sun.

  27. Questions:
  28.  
  29.     1) Are we correct, is SGL available now or in the near future for
  30.        the Sun (specifically a Sparc 10 station)?
  31.  
  32.     2) If it is or will be available who do we contact to get further
  33.        information?
  34.  
  35.     3) What other steps can we take to improve the graphics performance
  36.        of a sparc 10 to match or better that of an Indigo XS 4000. ie
  37.        graphics cards etc.
