- Hey I had a good chuckle this evening.
-
- At a friends house I was perusing his latest BYTE magazine. The article about UnixLite
- by Univel (USL & Novell) caught my eye. The author goes on at length about how Univel made UnixLite
- 'slimmer' and 'better' that traditional Unix's by eliminating many of the unneeded utilities
- such as 'tar', 'cpio' and 'uucp' that just take up space on one's hard disk. Also, the standard
- networking protocols are something I never heard of (they mentioned 3 - probably Novell networking
- stuff). If you want TCP/IP & NFS - well that costs extra. By the way, so do the compilers, device
- driver writing 'kit' and GUI programming 'kit' (does this mean that linkable X windows libs aren't
- part of the base system?).
