- In article <Bx8wFr.4yC@unccsun.uncc.edu> wdg@uncc.edu says:
- :
- : On a related topic, we are running 4 processors on our 690 (SunOS 4.1.2).
- : We were told by our Sun Rep that SunOS 4.1.3 was not tested (nor supports)
- : more than one processor on the 690. What gives?? We know that SunOS 5.x
- : is required for 'better' performance using multiprocessing but why would
- : 4.1.3 be a step backward? At what point is multiple processors supported
- : on the 690 Solaris 2.[01]??
-
- Whee. This is an even more confusing issue. With the introduction of
- the Viking processors (the new fast CPUs in the SS10s) there are 6 690
- configurations. These are:
-
- 690-120 2 processors. Cypress CPUs (Galaxy)
- 690-140 4 processors. Cypress CPUs (Galaxy)
- 690-30 1 processor. TI CPU (Viking)
- 690-41 1 processor. TI CPU (Viking)
- 690-52 2 processors. TI CPUs (Viking)
- 690-54 4 processors. TI CPUs (Viking)
-
- (I'm fairly sure that there isn't a 690-20 to match the SS10-20 but
- I could be wrong about that)
-
- The first four systems on this list can run 4.1.3. The last two, like
- their SS10 counterparts, require 5.x.
-
- So your Rep (or your understanding of him/her) was half right (or half
- wrong depending on your perspective). 4.1.3 supports multiprocessor
- 690s...but it doesn't support the NEW multiprocessor 690s.
