- I guess you haven't heard of OS/2 or Unix on a 486 machine. I hate the
- extended/expanded crap that microsoft has given us as much as the next guy.
-
- However, I haven't seen Sparc's in my price range(around $2000.00) and
- when I have or thought about going for 3-5K range the software price
- comes into effect! I'd 10 times rather have a Sparc(or clone that was
- faster than a 486) and 100 times rather have a HP 700 series, but dollars
- are still the limiting factor. I expect that if I had a comparable video
- system to a workstation, I would have paid as much, but I don't. Can
- you get workstations with low end color? I know a lot of the companies
- offer gray(grey) scale pretty cheap, but I like the color.
-
- I've been following the latest announcements about the new inexpensive
- workstations quite a bit. I've even seen some recent stuff about educational
- discounts, now we're talking. :):)
