  12. I'm in the process of transfering 14000 1/2" tapes to Exabyte (what a job...)
  13. Some of the original tapes are 10 years old and have some bad spots.
  14. I would like to be able to skip those spots and keep reading the rest of the 
  15. data on the tape.
  16. At this point the tape drive does 20 retries at rading then aborts with an error
  17. message when it encounters a bad spot. ANY command sent to the tape drive causes
  18. it to REWIND. 
  19. Is this due to the st (scsi tape) device driver or the way the tape drive is
  20. configured (by the way i'm using an HP 88780B drive)?

  22. How can i get around this?
