  12. We bought a 1 Gbyte disk /150 Mbyte Wangtek 1/4 inch tape combination
  13. from Unison. The tape reads all tapes written by the other drives. But
  14. often it cannot read tapes that it wrote. In that case, the tape it
  15. positioning for about a minute, and that stops with the read error message. 
  16. Often, the same tape cannot be overwritten beacuse of write errors.

  18. The tapes, by 3M, were sent to the manufacturer, who did not find any 
  19. problem with them. 3M suggested to degauss them in case of trouble. We 
  20. bought a degausse, and it really makes unwritable tapes writable again.

  22. We had 2 tape drives replaced, to no help. 
  23. I am wondering what causes the problems. It seems that the drive 
  24. magnetizes the tapes when writing to them.
