- We bought a 1 Gbyte disk /150 Mbyte Wangtek 1/4 inch tape combination
- from Unison. The tape reads all tapes written by the other drives. But
- often it cannot read tapes that it wrote. In that case, the tape it
- positioning for about a minute, and that stops with the read error message.
- Often, the same tape cannot be overwritten beacuse of write errors.
-
- The tapes, by 3M, were sent to the manufacturer, who did not find any
- problem with them. 3M suggested to degauss them in case of trouble. We
- bought a degausse, and it really makes unwritable tapes writable again.
-
- We had 2 tape drives replaced, to no help.
- I am wondering what causes the problems. It seems that the drive
- magnetizes the tapes when writing to them.
- Any ideas? If possible, please respond to my E-mail address rather than
- to this newsgroup.
