- We've just installed about $1K worth of RAM (an additional 16M to our
- existing 16M) in one of our SPARCstation2 computers. Installation was
- a snap, but now I'm having problems getting the system to recognize the memory.
- At boot up, it claims that only 16M are installed. The documentation from SUN
- that came with the SIMMS has no trouble shooting section at all. Do I need to
- reconfigure the kernal? Browsing all of our technical manuals, I could find
- no obvious way to ask UNIX the simple question : "How much RAM do you know
- about?" The only way I know how to query about memory is to halt the computer
- (Stop-A) and execute test /memory. I was suprised to find that this test failed.
- It claimed that 3 of the 4 original SIMMS (in memory bank 0) were faulty.
- I ran it again to find that all four bank 0 SIMMs were faulty! I went down the
- hall and found out that ALL of our SPARCs fail this test! Either all of our
- "factory" SPARCs have faulty SIMMs or the test /memory diagnostic is flakey.
-
- This is extemely frustrating! Has anybody had a similar experience? Does
- anyone have any suggestions?
