- I'm getting ready to buy a Sparc workstation (not sure which one yet)
- and one of the long term things I want to look at is doing some video
- processing with it. I'm looking for something that will function
- similarly to the NewTek Video Toaster package for the Amiga. Specifically:
-
- 1) has the hardware and software to read in video images from a VCR
- or CamCorder, and store the image internally in true color, even if
- the display isn't able to show it.
-
- 2) has a software package that can take data of 3d objects and a script
- that describes how they will move/change, and will render an animation
- of them. Should include things like texture mapping, reflections,
- transparency, etc (ie. a good 3d package)
-
- 3) has the ability to combine 1 & 2, including the use of "transparent
- colors" (similar to the way blue screens are used). Also has the
- ability to generate Text (with nice text fields similar to those used
- in professional quality TV..like news shows and such) that can be
- superimposed on the other images.
-
- 4) a video image editing package for generating wipes, fades, retouching
- images, etc.
-
- 5) the ability to read in sound sources (in addition to the ones
- encapsulated in the video source) that can be combined in to the
- system.
-
- 6) support for output to NTSC and/or true color and/or other standard
- video sources (for example, sending the output to a VCR that is recording)
-
- (keep in mind that the video toaster can put all of this together on a
- working system for well under $10k)
-
- Thanks for your help
