- : While something X based may be good for looking at your net at a particular
- : moment, you may want something that can collect stats over a longer time.
- : Take a look at NNstat; it runs on Suns, DECstations, and DEC VAXen
- : running Ultrix. You can configure it to gather information you consider
- : important (such as which two hosts are exchanging packets, which host
- : is receiving or sending packets, etc). It comes with some scripts to
- : summarize the data it collects, but it's pretty easy to write scripts
- : to play with the data in whatever way you want.

- If you are willing to shell out $ I recommend NetMetrix from Metrix
- Network Systems. We have a version that runs under OpenWindows on a
- Sun. It includes traffic and trend monitors, a great protocol analyser,
- and some nifty troubleshooting tools. We have found it a great
- alternative to lugging our Network General Sniffer all over the
- building.
