- Sorry, Ed, but RTS has nothing to do with the DTE (Sun) pacing the DCE
- (Modem). RS232C was developed at a time when DTEs could easily
- overrun the communications channels; the RTS/CTS signaling was
- provided to allow the DCE to tell the DTE to hold off. The DTE merely
- asserts RTS whenever it WANTS to SEND (not when it is ready to
- receive). The only signal that RS232C provides for such a purpose is
- the DTR, which is intended to be a quasi-static (once asserted, the
- DTE is ready, and will only go non-ready in case of disaster).
