- Chris's statement is true in general, but I'm sad to say that there
- is no Kermit for Stratus VOS in the Columbia University collection.
-
- (There are Kermit versions for a Harris operating system called "VOS",
- but I don't think that the Harris rendition is portable to a Stratus.)
-
- At our site, we obtained two different Kermit programs for VOS from
- the Stratus support channels; we received source code for both. One
- was adapted from a UNIX C Kermit and seems to have some connection
- with Daniel Senie of Stratus; the other is in PL/I and has no claimed
- author. We are using the PL/I program; it claims to use the sliding-
- windows feature of the protocol. You may be able to get to a Kermit
- over the Stratus Remote Service Network; our site does not have RSN :-(
-
- There just has not been much code of any kind out there in public view
- that was written for Stratus VOS; now that we have "comp.sys.stratus"
- and Info-Stratus this is starting to change.
-
- Tom Moravansky reported a couple weeks ago that he pointed some people
- to Zmodem code for other platforms; it may be that eventually somebody
- will make a Zmodem implementation for VOS available to other users.

- There does exist a small repository of freely available programs for
- Stratus on MIKE.LRC.EDU, the list-host machine; however, there is a
- configuration problem right now that is preventing the file server
- software from working properly. This problem is currently under
- investigation.
-
- Lenoir-Rhyne College is also experiencing circuit problems in its
- Internet connection. The best guess as of yesterday is that a flakey
- microwave transmitter somewhere upstream is at fault. Some network
- traffic does get through, but things move slowly in general. This
- affects both direct Info-Stratus mailing-list messages and the list
- gateway to "comp.sys.stratus". As time permits, I am working with
- the very busy system manager at LRC to try to resolve these problems.
- Please bear with us.
