- I'm stuck! Please help!
-
- We have borrowed a Pinnacle MO drive for evaluation purposes.
- Pinnacle is working on a SGI driver for their drive, but it is not
- ready yet.
-
- I had hoped to be able to use the generic SCSI driver (/dev/scsi/sc*).
- I think I saw some messages about using this driver for the Introl MO
- drive because the custom Introl driver had bugs under 4.0.5 (or am I
- wrong).
-
- Anyway, I'm stuck now. The drive shows up in my hinv, but I don't
- know were to go from there.
-
- If it was an ordinary disk I would use something like fx, mkfs, mount
- in that order, but I don't think I can use fx for this drive. I have
- been told that the drive has 1 head (obviously), 18751 tracks and 31
- sectors/track. Is it possible to use this information with mkfs to
- create a file system? And if yes, what values should I select for all
- the inode and cylinder group stuff?
-
- I'm a newbie when it comes to MO drives and SCSI inferfaces so any
- hints and help would be highly appreciated.
-
- To rephrase my questions:
-
- 1) Are there any change that I will be able to use the disk drive with
- the generic scsi driver?
-
- 2) If yes, how do I format the drive and make a filesystem?
-
- My setup: Iris 4D/20 with Irix 4.0.1.

- Hinv says:

- FPU: MIPS R2010A/R3010 VLSI Floating Point Chip Revision: 1.5
- CPU: MIPS R2000A/R3000 Processor Chip Revision: 1.6
- On-board serial ports: 2
- Data cache size: 8 Kbytes
- Instruction cache size: 16 Kbytes
- Main memory size: 32 Mbytes
- Integral Ethernet: ec0, version 0
- Disk drive / removable media: unit 5 on SCSI controller 0 <- this is it
- Disk drive: unit 4 on SCSI controller 0
- Tape drive: unit 2 on SCSI controller 0: QIC 150
- Disk drive: unit 1 on SCSI controller 0
- Integral SCSI controller 0: Version WD33C93
- Graphics board: GR1.1 Bit-plane, Z-buffer options installed

- And the drive: Pinnacle PMO 650 magneto-optical drive with a Verbatim
