- | I had hoped to be able to use the generic SCSI driver (/dev/scsi/sc*).
- | I think I saw some messages about using this driver for the Introl MO
- | drive because the custom Introl driver had bugs under 4.0.5 (or am I
- | wrong).
- |
- | Anyway, I'm stuck now. The drive shows up in my hinv, but I don't
- | know were to go from there.
- |
- | If it was an ordinary disk I would use something like fx, mkfs, mount
- | in that order, but I don't think I can use fx for this drive. I have
- | been told that the drive has 1 head (obviously), 18751 tracks and 31
- | sectors/track. Is it possible to use this information with mkfs to
- | create a file system? And if yes, what values should I select for all
- | the inode and cylinder group stuff?
-
- I'd certainly start by trying fx, and using the dksc driver.
-
- If this is the Sony [CE]501 drive, you will have problems. Pinnacle
- used to use these, I don't know if they still do or not.
-
- | 1) Are there any change that I will be able to use the disk drive with
- | the generic scsi driver?
-
- Sure. Asuming it doesn't cause SCSI bus problems, you write
- programs using libds.a and the ds driver (see man ds dslib, and
- the sample code in ~4Dgifts/examples/devices/devscsi
-
- | 2) If yes, how do I format the drive and make a filesystem?
-
- By using the format command. You will *NOT* be able to do mkfs
- or other filesystem oriented commands if you use the generic
- scsi driver.
