- Having followed the last few rounds of discussion on third-party gear and
- hearing some negative comments about Micropolis drives, I am suddenly faced
- with the choice between two 3.5 inch/1.2 GByte disks, one of which (of
- course) is a Micropolis. The other is an HP and I would take it in an
- instant if it were not for the almost $500 difference in price! This beast
- will become the system drive in an R4000 Indigo/Elan and so we don't need
- a flaky unit, but the supplier is a good one we have dealt with in the
- past (Parity) and claims to have a hundred such drives in customers'
- machines without any problems. The drive comes with the usual 5yr guarantee
- and will be supported directly by Parity for the first year.
-
- Am I being paranoid about this, are the problems with Micropolis drives
- just urban legend, or are these the disk drives from hell? Any comments
- would be very useful right about now...
-
- Thanks,
-
- Rob.
