- Summary: Advice wanted on Sharp PC-3100 and 4Dos problems
- Keywords: Sharp PC-3100 palmtop 4Dos shell compatibility
-
- I want to run JP Software's 4Dos command.com replacement on my Sharp PC-3100
- palmtop. I've moved it over, but I'm having compatibility problem, and I'm
- looking for suggestions to get round them.
-
- The internal BEEP and DELAY commands lock up the Sharp, requiring a
- Ctrl Break to get going (interestingly, TIMER works fine). The 4HELP
- help routine locks up, requiring a Ctrl-Alt-Del to get out of it. All
- three of these work if I turn "low power" mode off (however I try to
- avoid that, because it really kills the battery life). I can understand the
- BEEP and DELAY might use the usual MS-DOS internal timing routines (which
- are probably not required at all inside the Sharp - it doesn't have DRam to
- require periodic refresh) ... but why would 4HELP be a problem? Any clues
- would be welcome.
-
- When running 4Dos, the Sharp POPUP TSR is unable to run any applications
- when installed with the usual POPUP /I installation. Seems to think it
- has no memory. Applications will run when POPUP is started with POPUP
- (the non-installed mode), however then you can't use any of the alarms.
- I noticed that POPUP appeared to contain a COMSPEC=C:\COMMAND.COM
- so I suspect it is fouling up on the changed COMSPEC. I tried to force
- it to work by running a secondary command.com, but that gave the same
- results. Any suggestions for ways round it?
