- I have been working with some of the new dye-sublimation
- printers that have come on the market, and I must say,
- if you want GREAT color (or rather, if you need GREAT
- color), check out the Tektronix Phaser IISD or the
- Shinko CP-446i duy-sublimation printers. They are 300dpi,
- continuous tone, with either monochrome, 3 color, or 4 color,
- ribbons. Absolutely fantastic color output. Much, much
- better than any thermal wax transfer printers like the
- NextColor printer.
-
- The problem with thermal wax is that you can scratch the printout
- and the waxy surface gets damaged. With the dye sublimation
- printers, on the other hand, the ink bleeds into the paper
- and you get a much more permanent print that is less
- susceptible to damage by mishandling.
-
- Sure would be nice if Next had an offering in that arena.
- At least I wouldn't have to pay for a Postscript engine
- for the printer.
